CVM Live visited Cumberland High School in St Catherine which resumed face-to-face learning with grade 11 students on Monday, January 4. The principal of Cumberland High, Darien Henry highlights some of the challenges faced since the COVID-19 pandemic.
Henry says there has been upward mobility in most areas of the institution. He says up to 54 percent of the eight hundred (800) plus students are fully inclined to online learning. Henry however says there are grave concerns for the students who have fallen under the radar.
CVM Live understands most of the schools in the corporate area listed for face to face classes, will reopen over the course of this week. Meanwhile, President of the National Parent-Teacher Association of Jamaica (NPTAJ), Mitzie Harris-Dillon is reiterating the NPTAJ’s stance for solely virtual lessons given recent variants and a holiday spike in COVID-19.
Harris-Dillon says while scores of students lack the resources to adjust to online learning, it is imperative that the health of students be protected.
