Another trade union representing the correctional officers is speaking out against the alleged nepotism and cronyism at the Department of Correctional Services (D.C.S). The Union says the majority of the complaints received from members are related to promotions and appointments, backchanneling of appointments, and even victimization of officers.
The Jamaica Civil Services Association (JSCA) is the second trade union to speak about the alleged nepotism and cronyism at the department of correctional services. The JSCA which represents about 1600 correctional officers says majority of the complaints received stem from promotions and appointments.
Clarence Frater who is the third vice president of the JSCA is hoping that a new promotions policy will address the issues. According to correctional officers, they are more comfortable reporting complaints to unions that are independent of the DCS.
