Petrojam Jamaica Ltd and the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) are joining forces to champion a transformative cause: the establishment of a state-of-the-art Burn Care Facility at UHWI. This groundbreaking initiative aims to create Jamaica’s very first Burn Unit, catering to the specialized needs of burn victims. While the UHWI and the Bustamante Hospital currently have dedicated areas for Burn Care, a comprehensive burn unit has been absent in the country. To kickstart this momentous endeavour, a significant fundraising event titled “Burn Care Matters” will be held, uniting stakeholders from the private and public sectors, non-governmental organizations, and interest groups. This gathering will shed light on the paramount importance of prioritizing specialized care for burn victims and rally for crucial financial support to turn this vision into a reality. Incoming General Manager of Petrojam, Telroy Morgan and University Hospital of the West Indies, Senior Plastic Surgeon Dr. Guyan Arscott tell us more.
