What does a scientist do? Can a female become a scientist? Yes you can! Dr. Charah Watson, Executive Director, Scientific Research Council is a prime example.

The S&T XXtrordineers Program is designed to celebrate top female achievers making their mark in the Science and Technology industry. Conceived by the Scientific Research Council, the S&T XXtrordineers recognition program will celebrate and recognize outstanding Jamaican female scientists and technologists who are making a difference and whose works have made an impact. The recognition program was designed with the objective of stimulating the interest and encouraging greater participation of Jamaican youth, especially females, in the fields of Science and Technology.

The S&T XXtrordineers recognition program is the first of its kind to be launched in Jamaica, to highlight and bring awareness to the successes of exceptional Jamaican female scientists. This is a necessary step towards reducing the gender disparity that currently exists in the fields of Science and Technology; allowing females greater access to lucrative careers in the field.  It also provides females with the opportunity to lend their ingenuity to development of more diverse inventions/innovations.

This program forms a part of the Council’s mandate to popularize Science and Technology (S&T) and foster a scientific culture amongst our people. At their coming event, the Hon. Daryl Vaz, Minister of Science, Energy and Technology will bring opening remarks and unveil the S&T XXtrordineers magazine that will also be launched.
