CPR Week: “Keep Pumping” with Heart Foundation

Do You Know CPR? – that’s a popular question asked during certain emergency scenes, but what is it really? Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is an emergency lifesaving procedure that is performed when the heartbeat stops. It combines chest compressions often with artificial ventilation in an attempt to manually prolong or preserve intact brain function until further measures are taken to restore spontaneous blood circulation and breathing in a person who is in cardiac arrest.

Did you know that you can perform CPR on a child? – There is a special way to executing that activity safely!

Quick Facts:

  • Utilize CPR when an adult is no longer breathing or when they are only gasping occasionally, and when they are not responding to questions or taps on the shoulder.
  • In children and infants, It is okay to use CPR when they are not breathing normally and not responding.

With COVID-19 being the main challenge in our lives today, C.P.R is sensitive especially because of the physical contact… The week of the 23rd of August is C.P.R Week which is being observed under the theme “Keep Pumping”. To educate us more on the measures that can be taken before, during, or after an incident, we have the Heart Foundation. They will also demonstrate some effective ways to do C.P.R during a pandemic – Alonzo Mothersill, Health Education and Training Coordinator, and Taneisha Goldson, C.P.R Instructor.
