Ever wonder why some people keep looking younger every day? For some, it is natural beauty while others do a simple cosmetic procedure for instance microneedling. Microneedling involves pricking the skin with tiny sterilized needles. The small wounds caused by the procedure enable the body to produce more collagen and elastin leaving your skin looking younger. In some parts of the world, it is also known as collagen induction therapy.
What are the health benefits of microneedling? Microneedling can help to tackle issues such as acne, hair loss (alopecia), dark spots or patches on your skin (hyperpigmentation), large pores, reduced skin elasticity, scars, stretch marks, sunburns, fine lines, and wrinkles. License Aesthetician, Aishia Mcgibbon shares more on Sunrise. Watch the interview below:
Who can perform a microneedling procedure and what to expect? A dermatologist (doctors who specialize in skin care and skin disorders) or an aesthetician can perform a microneedling procedure. If you try it somewhere other than a doctor’s office, first check the individual’s experience and credentials and ensure that all equipment is sterilized. Do-it-yourself (DIY) versions of microneedling devices are also available. However, dermatologists warn against using those because you might accidentally hurt your skin, and you may not have a good way to sterilize the needles. The surgery is considered safe however like any procedure, it has risks.
The procedure usually takes 10-20 minutes, depending on how big the area is. Most people need 4-6 treatments to see a difference. Healing can take days or weeks depending on the depth of the piercings. You may have some minor pain after the procedure, and your skin may be red for a few days. Additionally, your skin may feel tight and flake a bit while it heals. Deep microneedling treatments may cause the skin to bleed or bruise. Microneedling creates tiny holes in the skin, which could let germs enter, especially if the equipment isn’t cleaned well.
You could have an allergic reaction to the cream or serum that goes on your skin after the microneedling. And the wounds might get infected if you don’t keep your skin clean. You should stay away from places that could have lots of germs, like swimming pools, lakes, rivers, and oceans. And don’t use irritating soaps and lotions.
You can also get an infection if the equipment used hasn’t been cleaned well. Share this link with a friend who may benefit from the details shared here.
