The Caribbean Military of Professionals (CAMP) was established on 8th April 2000. The programme was created based on the need for the resettlement of retiring soldiers to include psychological, medical, financial counseling and job placement services. These greatly desired services were believed to be outside of the purview of the Jamaica Legion, RAFA and Ex-services league led to the creation of the Caribbean Military of Professionals.
However, it was not appealing to younger, post-independence retired soldiers, despite sustained recruitment efforts. An additional need for assistance in rebuilding basic civic principles, positive values and leadership among young retiring veterans, was also identified.
