Jamaica’s Rhodes Scholar For 2023

David Salmon is the Jamaica Rhodes Scholar for 2023. The announcement was made recently at King’s House following a full day of interviews with eleven finalists contending for the scholarship.

Salmon is a graduate of the University of the West Indies (UWI) with a first degree in Public Policy and Management and is currently pursuing his master’s degree in Development Studies at the University of Cambridge. He is also a past student of Wolmer’s Trust High School for Boys and a Gleaner columnist.

The selection committee was chaired by Governor General Sir Patrick Allen along with other members who are previous Rhodes Scholars recipients and Professor Dale Webber, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the Mona Campus of the University of the West Indies.

The Rhodes Scholarship is the oldest and most prestigious international scholarship programme, enabling outstanding young people from around the world to study at the University of Oxford. The scholarship was first awarded in 1902. The selection committees around the world select on the basis not only of intellect but also of character, leadership and commitment to service.
