The broadband penetration rate across the Caribbean is approximately 50%, which contributes significantly to a high digital exclusion rate and limits the opportunities for many. In Jamaica, the penetration rate is also low and we continue to lag behind. This results in the widening of the digital gap between those who have access to life-changing opportunities and those who do not.
The Covid-19 pandemic highlighted some of the communities that remain isolated and have difficulty participating in online classes, work-from-home and other online opportunities. Flow Jamaica has identified some major barriers to internet use and recently launched the Jump initiative. The Flow ‘Jump’ initiative is geared toward greater digital inclusion by bridging the digital divide that exists. As digital transformation continues the programme will ensure that no one, including the most vulnerable, is left behind.
