Mangrove forests are very important coastal ecosystems. They protect the coast from storms, provide critical nursery habitats for the fish we eat, and clean the water flowing out to sea. However, mangrove forests are rapidly disappearing here in Jamaica and around the world. To combat this decline, the Alligator Head Foundation partnered with the Khaled bin Sultan Living Oceans Foundation to bring their mangrove education and restoration program to high school students in Portland. On April 20th and 21st students will visit the mangrove forest to plant trees. The initiative also helps the students understand and learn about the mangroves while making a difference. Research Programme Manager at the Alligator Head Foundation, Denise Henry shares more on Sunrise.
