Mirror Mirror on The Wall, Emmeika Is the Fairest of Them All

Emmeika grew up in Rocky Point, Clarendon with her grandmother as her guardian. Her Mother had me as a teenager then went abroad when she was 5 years old to provide a better life for her and her family. “Everything I have owned I have worked for, and I quickly realized that in order to become the woman I knew I could be, I had to leave Clarendon. I had no idea how I was going to move to Kingston but I tried anyway. ” – Emmeika

She graduated from the Old Harbour High School and then came to Kingston to attend Stony Hill Heart Academy, where she studied supervisory customer service. Throughout this period she lived on the school’s campus. When she left the Stony Hill Heart Academy she worked for 6 months, after which attended the University of Technology Jamaica on a scholarship for Bachelors of Education. During that process, she had to leave the scholarship program to work as they don’t allow students to work and attend school. She worked full time at a vinyl distribution company for five and a half years while attending school part time because I knew what I wanted for myself and I was determined to get it. 

“But how would I reach my goals you may ask? I wasn’t sure, I just knew there was more to me than my current situation and geographic location. By this time With the help of my mom and my new job, I was financially stable enough to rent a studio apartment in Mona. One day I realized that I was in need of a mirror.”

Ellis thought of the easiest and most economical way to get one so she did what everyone would have done and headed to Azans, Mega Mart, Bashco etc but couldn’t find any that matches her decor, style, or size of the space she needed it for. Ellis then started researching how to make them so I started experimenting with different materials. 

During this experiment Ellis made my first mirror which to surprisingly became a success. Friends that came over loved it so she made one for her best friend for Christmas. She posted the mirror on her Instagram and people started enquiring about it so she sent them to me, this time I never saw it as a business nor a side hustle, just something I did for fun. Two years later Covid started and was life-changing as the idea of making it into a business emerged and grew from there. Ellis put my vision on paper then turned my vision into a reality.
