Miss Jamaica Heritage, Brihanna Knite is currently in South Africa to compete against 60 different women and showcase Jamaica’s culture and heritage. Brihanna Kinte was born in Jamaica and later immigrated to the United States. She grew up in a single-parent home which taught her to become independent and self-reliant from a tender age. In 2019, Knite moved to Ghana to learn more about history and culture. She is a strong believer in embracing one’s roots as she believes that every black person is bound to Africa. Knite remains committed to learning about Black History noting that despite not growing up in Africa it did not take away from knowing her heritage. In fact, she believes that it has made her more aware and enlightened as a majority of Jamaicans are of West African slave descent.

The Miss Heritage organization is based in South Africa, however, the pageant is held in a different country yearly. Every year, 60 different women compete against each other by showcasing their individual country’s cultures and heritage. The competition will be held in South Africa, on September 24th. The prizes include USD $100,000 that will be shared among the top three and an SUV for the winner.
