An IRS-approved 501(c)3 non-profit company called Peace and Love Academic Scholarship (PALAS) Inc has the goal of offering financial aid to high school and college students in Jamaica and the rest of the Caribbean, depending on the students’ socioeconomic status. The only funding source for scholarships is donations or money raised. In the past 12 years, PALAS has given out 900 scholarships totaling over JA$100 million (U.S. $800,000) to Jamaican and Caribbean students who are enrolled in universities in their native nations and in the United States.
