Recycling Partners of Jamaica is a registered charity with a bold mission: to collect and recycle at least 85% of the 800 million plastic bottles produced in Jamaica each year. Their commitment to addressing the plastic waste crisis is commendable. The organization focuses on accepting two specific types of plastic bottles: PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) and HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene). PET, commonly found in containers for food, beverages, personal care products, medicines, and consumer goods, is identified by the symbol at the bottom of the bottle.
Examples of PET bottles include water, juice, soda bottles, as well as products like Jergens body wash, Downy Unstoppables, Eco gel, and dishwashing liquids like Palmolive and Pal. Recycling Partners of Jamaica has taken a step further by not only collecting these bottles but also creating a system that ensures their proper recycling.
