The Road Safety Unit promotes and fosters a safe traffic environment for all road users. The unit does this through public education, road safety audits and inspections and influencing policy decision-making. In 2022, the nation’s road network witnessed 488 lives lost, with motorcyclists being the most affected, followed by pedestrians and private vehicle drivers. The majority of the fatalities were males. As of May 31, 2023, there have been 167 lives lost in 154 fatal collisions, marking an 18% reduction compared to the same period last year. Education and Information Officer at Road Safety Unit in the Island Traffic Authority, Dontae Matthews stopped by to share some road safety tips and plans for June which is being observed as Road Safety Month.
