Security Alert: August 14, 2023

Over the past week, there has been a significant 68% surge in the number of reports received by Crime Stop, a trend that has proven invaluable in enabling the Jamaica Constabulary Force to take decisive action against criminals. This effort has resulted in the confiscation of 13 firearms along with 60 rounds of ammunition, and the apprehension of 9 individuals linked to these illegal activities. Constable Shayon Francis is appealing to parents and buyers to adhere to their customary bookstores or trusted shopping venues, where they have historically obtained their required items. Watch the interview below:

Law enforcement authorities are actively urging the public to remain vigilant against fraudulent schemes, especially as the back-to-school shopping season commences. There is a particular emphasis on identifying individuals who are attempting to deceive unsuspecting individuals during this time. Numerous instances involve the manipulation of book purchases or the dissemination of emails supposedly from educational institutions, citing various fees that need immediate payment. Exploiting the tendency of parents to seek more affordable options for school supplies, these criminals are using online platforms to promote seemingly irresistible deals, which are designed solely to prey on parents and buyers.

Constable Shayon Francis is appealing to parents and buyers to adhere to their customary bookstores or trusted shopping venues, where they have historically obtained their required items. This cautious approach can effectively shield them from falling victim to fraudulent activities. In the larger fight against crime, community members possess the power to contribute valuably by discreetly sharing information that safeguards their anonymity. To this end, individuals are encouraged to contact Crime Stop at 311, the NIB tip line at 811, or the police at 119 to provide information that aids in maintaining the safety and integrity of the community.
