Shaneil Muir: Breaking Barriers ‘Black Is Beautiful’

Shaneil Muir’s journey has been one of perseverance and hard work, having competed in the popular television reality talent series Magnum Kings and Queens of the Dancehall.  She has broken barriers and pushed through doors, to stand out in a male dominated industry.

Music is everything to me. I mean, when you grew up on something, surround yourself with it and build your career on it. It definitely tends to leave a mark in your life that’s simply irreplaceable,” she said.

The St James native says her love affair with music is one so captivating, she cannot imagine herself doing anything else. Describing music as a relentless fire that burns from the depths of her soul, Muir says it is her passion that fans the flames of her musical drive.

“My passion and drive for music is one that’s everlasting, infinite. It comes from the love I have for it. It was birthed from a place of always wanting to create, to make something special from the smallest detail and grew into this intense to touch people’s lives with my words, my melodies,” she shared.

With hits such as Exclusive, Top Gyal, 3D, The Pain, Same Guy (her collaboration with singer Denyque) and of course her breakout single, Yamabella, Muir aims to become a force to be reckoned with in dancehall.

A true star herself, Muir has been making waves in an industry where female artistes have seen very little global success. And she hopes to one day break the cycle of male dominated supremacy in the music industry.

“If there’s one thing I could change about the music business, it would be the transition for females in dancehall. It is really hard on us as women to make headway in the industry with certain barriers holding us back. I would really love to make things easier for our female artistes because the industry really could use a lot more of our talent.”

Now under the management of UK based Rebelace Music, Muir released her first single for 2022 titled Black is Beautiful just in time for Black History Month.
