Did you know Jamaica undergoes a survey every 10 years? 2022 marks the 15th Population and Housing Census.
A census is an official count of the population at a point in time. The 2022 Census is a count of the population and housing stock in the country. Data is also collected on other social and demographic factors. In this interview, STATIN’s Director General, Carol Coy shares more details with us, on Sunrise. Watch it in full:
Data is also collected on other social and demographic factors. Usually, Jamaica undergoes a survey every 10 years and this year marks the 15th Population and Housing Census. We will be going into hundreds of thousands of communities across the island to gather information on the housing stock in the country and key social and demographic information that will help inform policies. Information from the census will help to determine where to put schools, clinics, and other Government services. The census is important for all of us as Jamaicans, and STATIN encourages all Jamaicans to be counted because “all a wi count”.
How Can Persons Verify the Identity of Census Takers?
All census takers have an official photo ID Card that was issued by us at STATIN. Census takers have been trained to present their IDs when introducing themselves to you. You may verify that the person is a census taker by either contacting the Census Office’s hotline, at (876) 630-1600 or by checking the verification section of the 2022 Census website.
