Head of the Jamaica Constabulary Force Anti-Trafficking Unit, DSP Carl Berry, is calling on Jamaicans to exercise extreme caution as global human trafficking rises.
DSP Berry who was addressing a human trafficking symposium in Manchester recently says the unit needs the help of Jamaicans to detect and bring traffickers to justice.
The frightening reality of human trafficking was shared by DSP Carl Berry who is urging Jamaicans to play their part in identifying and rescuing persons.
Berry says reports indicate that 4,580,000 persons are being trafficked worldwide, the highest figure ever. His team has rescued over 100 people to date of Chinese, Indian, Bahamian, Panamanian and Colombian nationality.
He points out that human trafficking is a consequence of global poverty which forces persons to seek employment which can result in them sacrificing their freedom.
He is encouraging parents to lead by example and ensure that children are taught not to trust strangers.
