The American Cancer Society estimates that forty-three thousand two hundred and fifty (43,250) women and five hundred and thirty men (530) men will die of breast cancer this year alone, and the risk rate is also very high.
Hematologist and Oncologist, Dr. Gilian Wharfe is calling for free accessibility to treatment for patients in Jamaica.
She says it is significant to recognize the impact of the disease and treatment on individuals.
Meanwhile, one breast cancer survivor told Cvm Live she was diagnosed in October 2019. She highlights myths and the stigma attached to the disease.
October is celebrated globally as breast cancer awareness month. The meeting was held recently at the Jamaica cancer society in Kingston.
