CDC Handover of COVID-19 Mitigation and Other Supplies

In an effort to combat and contain the COVID-19 pandemic, the Centers for Diseases Control and Prevention (CDC) donates medical supplies and equipment to the Ministry of Health and Wellness through the CDC’s agreement with Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) / World Health Organization (WHO).

The value of the items donated is approximately USD 59 million dollars (JMD 394,054.94), which includes a sixteen-seater minibus, laboratory supply items, satellite phones, VHF radios, cellular phones, laptops with bags. “I understand additional mitigation items will be delivered by the United States government in the coming weeks and I know it will be put to good, to further mitigate the spread of the virus islandwide,” stated Mr. John McIntyre, Chief of Mission – Embassy of the United States of America/ CDC.

During the handover, McIntyre made mention of the recent JMD 45 million dollars which was donated by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in order to support Jamaica’s uptake of the COVID-19 vaccines whilst reducing transmission in vulnerable communities. He shared that the funds directed to Jamaica’s AIDS Support for Life (JASL) will be used for the same mission of mitigating and combatting the spread of COVID-19.
