Government Announces Tighter COVID-19 Restrictions

Tighter COVID-19 Restrictions- In light of the community spread phase of COVID-19, restrictions have once again been tightened, initially for a two-week period.

On Monday, right after Prime Minister Andrew Holness was sworn in for his second consecutive term as prime minister of Jamaica, he announced adjustments to the measures in place, which take effect today. These include an updated nightly all-island curfew.

Prime Minister Holness notes that persons 70 years and older will be required to stay home for the most part but can leave once each day for the necessities of life. `

Taxis are required to transport one person less than the maximum number of persons allowed and passengers must wear masks. The Prime Minister is also encouraging all businesses to allow persons to work from home if they are able to do so. He again expresses the importance of citizens adhering to the restrictions.

Despite the obvious need to contain the spread of the virus, there are mixed reactions in Falmouth Trelawny, towards the nightly curfews. However, Aladden Love reports that there is a mixed reaction to the prolonged restrictions.
