Local government elections have been postponed. The Local Government elections which would have been due this Sunday, November 29 have been delayed due to the public health crisis and the financial challenges associated with the Coronavirus, COVID-19 outbreak, and the recent rainfalls.
Minister Mckenzie says the health of the country is of national importance. Almost three months ago, the staging of the general election on September 3 and the political campaigns were described as super-spreaders of the virus. Less than 24-hours later, Jamaica was in the community transmission phase.
But Opposition Leader, Mark Golding says the one year period is in contradiction with the fixed election cycle that was designed to remove any intentions of snap elections by the governing party.
