The government of Jamaica and the Republic of Cuba have signed two letters of intent to foster continued support in eye care and expand the local medical team.
Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton inked the partnership in Havana, Cuba Saturday.
Despite recent uproar about the Health Ministry’s plans to engage medical expertise from foreign countries, Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton on Saturday signed a letter of intent for a technical cooperation agreement with the government of Cuba. The aim is the continued provision of a medical brigade of health professionals to Jamaica.
The Ministry also notes that a similar letter was signed for the renewal of an agreement for the operation of an ophthalmology centre, which has, over the years, facilitated greater access to high-quality and timely vision and eye health services for Jamaicans.
Meantime the Cuban government has expressed confidence in the renewed medical partnership.
The signing was done with Cuba’s Minister of Public Health, Dr. José Miranda on the sidelines of the International Convention “Cuba Salud” 2022, held in Havana, Cuba.
