Desmond McKenzie, West Kingston Member of Parliament and Minister of Local Government, has filed a defamation lawsuit against Opposition Senator Damion Crawford. McKenzie claims during a political meeting on March 2, 2025, Crawford defamed him. The statements, widely shared online, allegedly harmed McKenzie&rsquo;s personal and professional reputation, causing embarrassment and public distrust.
The lawsuit claims the remarks imply criminal conduct and unfitness for public office. McKenzie says Crawford acted maliciously and ignored a demand for retraction and apology. He is seeking damages, including aggravated and exemplary damages, plus legal costs and interest.
The lawsuit follows a meeting hosted by the Opposition People's National Party at the Portmore Community College on March 2, 2025. Mckenzie claims that the public meeting contained words that were false and defamatory to him, resulting in injury, loss and damage.
