It is widely believed that Jamaica’s ongoing crime problem can be tied to the activities of deportees who gained their criminal education abroad, however, a joint report from the UN Office on Drugs and Crime and the World Bank found that there is no clear relationship between the number of deportations and serious crime rates in Jamaica. However, the stigma still persists.
