Taxi drivers are complaining that they have been left out of the government’s stimulus package; they are also concerned that the new rules stipulated by the government about the numbers of passengers they should carry sees them losing 25 per cent of their daily income even though they have been spending on materials to sanitise their units.
To top it off they believe that they are being policed too stringently by members of the force. To discuss these and other issues facing the sector we are joined by Mikael Phillips Opposition Spokesperson on Transport and Works and Egeton Newman President of the Transport Operators Development Sustainable Services .
We looked at taxi operators and how they are being affected by COVID-19. Transport operators are reporting a decrease in revenue of up to 60%. We spoke of options that can be offered to assist transport operators, such as grants from banks, government subsidy, provision of sanitizers and protective gear
