The New Digital Jamaica

According to the world economic forum, by 2022, over 60% of global GDP will be digitized. An estimated 70 per cent of new value created in the economy over the next decade will be based on digitally-enabled platforms.

The national identification system (NIDS) programme is much more than identification, the programme is about modernizing Jamaica’s ICT infrastructure to support the effective and efficient delivery of government services.

The NIDS project is broken up into two major activities, the ICT infrastructure upgrade, which accounts for 80 per cent of the loan agreement and 2, the national ID component, which accounts for 20 per cent. Recently the public key infrastructure programme was launched, how will all this impact the new digital Jamaica?

Joining us with analysis are, Maurice Barnes, Chief Executive Officer E-Gov Jamaica limited and Keith Montague, Director ICT at the passport, immigration, and citizenship Agency.
