The Falmouth police are appealing to motorists to reduce their speed and consider other road users when they drive. This follows a fatal crash in the parish along the North Coast Highway earlier on Saturday.
Based on police reports, a Nissan Serena vehicle collided with a truck. The driver sustained serious injuries and died on the spot. He has been identified as 34 year of Ricardo Smythe, a father of two boys. It is believed that he was heading home from a party.
Family members were immediately notified of the incident. They say Smythe was a hardworking individual who contributed much to his family. His passing has greatly affected them. While the truck driver did not sustain injuries, he appeared to be shaken by the ordeal.
Inspector Ralph Medley from the Trelawny Police was on location along with firefighters and paramedics. He expressed concern over the number of road fatalities on the nation’s road. He is calling on drivers to express greater control and consideration for others.
The Road Safety Unit is appealing to all road users to wear their seat belts, helmets, and other protective devices to save life, as well as, to pay close attention to road signs and markings. Director of the Road Safety Unit, Kenute Hare, is urging all road users to take road safety seriously. He says majority of our road crashes are related to bad driving practices.
