Speaking at the Marcus Garvey Public Sector Award Ceremony, earlier this week, Finance Minister, Dr. Nigel Clarke, said the Marcus Garvey Scholarship Programme, was created with the vision to build human capital development in the country.
Finance Minister, Dr. Nigel Clarke, says the Marcus Garvey public sector graduate scholarship programme, was conceived by the Government of Jamaica as a human capital development strategy. The programme was established in 2020 by the government, to offer Jamaican nationals and citizens employed in the public sector, the opportunity to obtain a postgraduate degree in competitive, accredited universities in Jamaica, North America and Europe.
Governor General and Chairman of the selection committee, his Excellency the Most Honorable Sir Patrick Allen, says the graduate programme is a bold initiative that will provide an excellent opportunity for the recipients.
The son of Marcus Garvey, Dr. Julius Garvey, lauded the government for this initiative, in honor of his father’s name. The selection for the programme is a three-tiered process, where public sector employees are invited to apply for the prestigious scholarship offered simultaneously with their application, to an eligible programme at a participating university.
