Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Pearnel Charles Jr says 200 million dollars has been allocated to support the national irish potato and onion programme in Jamaica.
Charles Jr reveals the renewed focus on local irish potato and onion production will improve the nation’s food security.
During his presentation on Wednesday, he commends the efforts of farmers, highlighting no importation of irish potatoes between November 2021 and July 2022.
Reeling from the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic the minister also disclosed there is increased growth in domestic crop production.
