President of the Crown Council of Ethiopia, his Imperial Highness, Prince Ermias Sahle Selassie is on the island as a special guest, for Heritage Week.
Prince Ermias who is the grandson of Emperor Haile Selassie arrived on Thursday night and was met, at the Norman Manley International Airport by Culture Minister Olivia ‘Babsy’ Grange and welcomed by the Rastafarian community among other groups.
As the country continues to build relationships with Africa, the Culture Minister says Jamaica is looking toward a policy on reparatory justice. She says this is significant to repair the injustices of our African ancestors.
While welcoming the Prince, the Minister notes the significance of the emperor to the Rastafarian community. His wife Princess Saba Kebede and other members and advisors of the Ethiopian Crown Council accompanied his trip.
The Prince is scheduled to participate in a number of official activities next week, including meetings with members of the Rastafarian community.
