Health Minister Concerned About Lifestyle Diseases

Phase one of the 13 million dollar salt study commissioned by the Ministry of Health and Wellness in 2021, revealed health patterns among Jamaicans that are of major concern to the ministry. 

Speaking at the media launch of the 66th Annual Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) health research conference in Kingston Tuesday, Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr. Christopher Tufton exposed that Jamaican’s salt intake is twice as high as the recommended level. 

He adds the conference is important, as it aligns with the priorities of the Ministry of Health, to tackle non-communicable diseases. 

Minister Tufton says the government seeks to reduce victims of lifestyle diseases but advises citizens to be careful of their consumption habits. 

However, the minister says it is important to spread awareness on the damage associated with non-communicable diseases. More details here:
