In a continuation of a previous story, we are reminded that not all the health cases featured on Inspire Jamaica are diagnosed at birth.
The story of Steven Dunn is one such case but his disability has not hampered his thirst for success.
Sandrica Mae, the Inspiree’s mother, says with the bond between Steven and his newly found high school friends has made her son change for the better.
“They made him feel at home and he’s just changed. He’s just happier” says Mae.
Through the complications of her pregnancy, was born a healthy baby boy but her concerns were not until November 12, 2016 where Steven fell while using the bathroom.
Unknowing to Mae, her son would stop walking from the age of 10 years old. The staff at Cornwall Regional Hospital then diagnosed Steven with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy; a rare genetic condition known to affect his muscles.
Despite the odds, Steven Dunn’s journey is far from over.
