The governing Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) has accused People&rsquo;s National Party (PNP) President Mark Golding of making a series of false and misleading statements during Thursday night&rsquo;s National Leaders Debate. In a statement today (Friday, August 29) the JLP said Golding demonstrated a &ldquo;chronic habit&rdquo; of misrepresenting the truth, citing several claims made during the debate. Among them, the party dismissed as untrue assertions that Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness holds 28 bank accounts, among others claims.&nbsp;

The governing Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) is condemning what has now become PNP President Mark Golding&rsquo;s chronic habit of making bold statements that are misleading, completely false, or both.
While speaking in the National Debate on Thursday, Mr. Golding made several false claims, including that:
*Golding&rsquo;s Falsehoods*&nbsp;
* That the Prime Minister has 28 bank accounts. &mdash; NOT TRUE &nbsp; * That he (Golding) did not hesitate to respond to concerns about his allegiance to Britain. &mdash; NOT TRUE &nbsp; * That the Prime Minister withdrew monies from Ponzi schemes before their failure, implying prior knowledge. &mdash; NOT TRUE &nbsp; * That the Prime Minister bought a house from FINSAC. &mdash; NOT TRUE &nbsp; * That Julian Robinson only welcomed the salary increases because he didn&rsquo;t know what was proposed. &mdash; NOT TRUE &nbsp;
On the matter of Julian Robinson, the truth is that not only was he fully aware, but he also went on to ask about the pension of former parliamentarians. It is dishonest for Mr. Golding to suggest that members of the Opposition were not privy to all the information that had already been shared by then Minister Clarke.
JLP Campaign Spokesperson, Senator Kamina Johnson Smith, stated:
&ldquo;Not only did Mr. Golding make false statements without any regard for the truth, but he also displayed highly deceptive and hypocritical conduct when he described the salary increases as unconscionable, knowing fully well that he has accepted his own increase, while the Prime Minister declined.
To this day, having accepted the increase, he remains the highest-paid politician in the country.
Mr. Golding also sought to drag the Prime Minister&rsquo;s name through the mud for good-faith investments undertaken by many Jamaicans. Yet, he was stumped when reminded that the PNP itself admitted to receiving one million United States dollars from Olint.
He was also untruthful in his comments concerning his efforts to block Jamaica from becoming a Republic.&rdquo;
Senator Johnson Smith concluded:
&ldquo;Golding&rsquo;s string of untruths, deceptions, and sheer hypocrisy confirm what Jamaicans already know &mdash; he cannot be trusted, and he certainly cannot be trusted to lead our country.&rdquo;
