In light of Local Government and Community Month, Kingston Mayor Senator Delroy Williams is doubling down on the need for the nation’s youth to understand the importance of local government.
Speaking at the National All-Island Run on Saturday, Senator Williams says local government is often overlooked, despite it playing such an integral role in nation-building.
He says it is for that reason, much emphasis is being placed on initiatives like the aforementioned. Senator Williams says efforts such as the Junior Council Program are also used to educate young people about local government, while simultaneously sharpening their civic pride.
He also notes the youth are at the centre of his vision to make Kingston the pearl of the Antilles and the light of the Caribbean sea.
The all-island run ended Saturday morning, with the five messages being delivered to the National church service.
