According to the Ministry of Health and Wellness, Jamaica passed the one million doses of COVID-19 vaccines administered mark on Sunday, November 7, 2021. This success comes as the country continues its vaccination program with blitz operations at multiple places across the island on Saturday and Sunday, which was previously stated as a November 30th deadline.
“I would like to salute our public health team for their dedication and continued efforts in taking vaccination to the population through fix sites, blitz, and community outreach. I also want to thank our partners in the private sector who have contributed to this effort.” the Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr. Christopher Tufton said.
As of 2:30 p.m., the country distributed a total of 1,000,455 doses of the COVID-19 vaccines; of this number 553,341 were first doses; 391,782-second doses, and 55,333 of the single-dose vaccine.
Three COVID-19 vaccines are currently being administered to the Jamaican population – AstraZeneca, Pfizer, and Johnson & Johnson, all of which have been approved by the World Health Organization (WHO). Jamaicans are encouraged to visit vaccination.moh.gov.jm or call 888-ONE-LOVE (663-5683) to find the nearest vaccination site.
The Health Minister notes that although the Government still has a long way to go in terms of vaccinating the entire population, he is hopeful that this milestone will motivate Jamaicans who have not yet been vaccinated to do so. He reiterated that vaccination saves lives and is the most efficient way to get back to normal after being infected with COVID-19.
