A 10 year-old girl is latest victim of gun violence in Central Kingston. Residents are this evening in fear and are calling for greater police presence in their communities.
Reports from the central police are that about 2:50 Thursday morning, Gezariah and her relatives were asleep at home when a relative reportedly smelt gasoline and heard strange sounds on the roof.
He went to investigate and was pounced upon by intruders, who attempted to gain entry to the house whilst firing at the occupants. When the gunfire subsided, it was discovered that Gezariah was shot. She was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.
In the meantime, PNP caretaker for Central Kingston Imani Duncan-Price says heavy police presence is needed. She notes the security ministry has responded to her call.
The police are appealing to residents or anyone with information in relation to the shooting death of Gezariah to come forward.
