Another alleged gang is being dismantled, this time in the Parish of Clarendon- the Ranko Gang. Police on Friday arrested eleven alleged gang members, four of whom are police constables serving the Constabulary.
The revelation was made during a press conference earlier today, at the criminal investigations branch, headquarters in Kingston. A joint-investigation into alleged breaches of the anti-crime legislation, has led to the arrest of eleven active members of the Clarendon-based Ranko Gang, four of whom are police officers.
Head of crime portfolio, DCP Fitz Bailey says several operations were conducted across the island on Friday. DCP bailey says there are three additional accused already in custody, including the alleged leader of the gang Constable Tafari Silvera who is currently before the Clarendon circuit court on a conspiracy to murder charge.
He says 27 members of the gang have been identified, which includes at least eight members of the security force. One of whom fled the island immediately after the arrest of Constable Silvera. DCP Bailey says the investigation revealed that the gang members committed several crimes across nine parishes. He further points out that the police have the capacity and the will to investigate their own as this investigation is a result of their own intelligence.
