Fatal crash victim since 2023

Meantime, 14 people from one family suffered several injuries in a two-vehicle collision in St Mary, Sunday. Vice-Chairman of the National Road Safety Council (NRSC) Dr Lucien Jones is calling on the health ministry to track the number of road fatalities and injuries recorded annually.

Vice-Chairman of the NRSC Dr Lucien Jones says while Jamaica has recorded zero road deaths so far in 2023, one family is coming to terms with the effects of vehicular crashes after 14 relatives suffered injuries in a two-vehicle collision Sunday.

Reports suggest the crash occurred at about 7 pm. He says annually approximately 1.3 million people die globally from road accidents, while 35 million suffer injuries. Meantime, he says it is important for the ministry of health to also take note of the number of persons being injured as a result of road accidents.
