With Ministry of Health and Wellness set to improve health facilities with its tele-medicine initiative, following the successful proof of concept pilot project in Kitson Town, St. Catherine more than a year ago, the Ministry of Health and Wellness has awarded C&W Business Jamaica the contract to provide ICT support for the initiative. This is in hopes to improve health workers’ abilities to properly source the information of patients.
The contract covers deployment to all hospitals and health centres across the country and a robust patient information management system among other key elements. The duration for the full rollout is 18 months while the contract term is 36 months.
Speaking at the signing event earlier this week Health Minister, Dr. Christopher Tufton highlights how this tele-medicine initiative will be beneficial to the provision of healthcare across Jamaica.
The Ministry is currently in the implementation phase of the project. The cost of which according to Dr. Tufton is $US 8.43 million dollars. He further outlines how the funds will be utilized. Vice president and General Manager of C&W Jamaica, Stephen Price says this new technology reflects a brighter future for Jamaica’s health systems.
