16th Chinese Ambassador to Jamaica Notes China-Jamaica Relations

Chinese Ambassador to Jamaica Chen Daojiang celebrated his one-year tenure with his first Media Briefing since he came into Office, on May 30, 2022. The main focus was on the China-Jamaica Relations and China’s Modernization which highlights China’s vision for quality human life and the environment.

Ambassador Daojiang broke down several updates on special projects and initiatives such as the Joint Belt and Road Cooperation, China’s Economic state, Global Development Initiative (GDI), Global Security Initiatives (GSI), Global Civilization Initiative (GCI), Chinese Path to modernization and many more.

China and Jamaica have grown together for over 50 years; the Ambassador says both countries have always treated each other with sincerity and respect which later improves political trust between leaders. The Ambassador notes China has always invested financially and technically – providing much-needed resources in the education, health, or construction industry while promoting Jamaica’s urban development – through China’s low interest- loan.

The Ambassador boasts of the China-Aid Confucius Institute at the University of the West Indies, UWI, Mona – erected to provide a platform for Jamaicans to learn Chinese and understand Chinese Culture. “I would like to take today’s chance to bring you good news. The number of students receiving Chinese Ambassador’s Scholarship each year will increase from five to eight in all four Jamaican Universities having cooperation ties with the Embassy,” says Chinese Ambassador to Jamaica, Chen Daojiang. He went on to say that this opportunity will help Jamaica cultivate more talents and promises that his country will continue to support Jamaica’s education and human resource development.

In shedding some light on China’s Economic state, the Chinese Ambassador to Jamaica reports since the start of 2023, his country’s economy has moved in a positive direction at a strategic space. Meanwhile, He praised the Belt and Road Cooperation – an initiative described as a ‘high-quality’ public good initiated by China. According to reports, 3/4 countries and 32 international organizations have participated in the initiative. It is also important to note that Jamaica was the first Caribbean country to sign the cooperation plan on jointly promoting Belt and Road Initiative, BRI, Cooperation.

A wealth of Global Initiatives were brought to the spotlight by the Amassador; initiatives through the conceptualization of their Leader and President Xi Jinping – initiatives that meet the most urgent need of developing countries (including Jamaica).
