Seventeen people are now in police custody after experts in the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) uncovered a multi-million-dollar fraud at the Seprod Group of companies. The suspects comprise past and present employees 14 of whom have so far been charged.
However, an appeal is being made for the remaining 10 suspects to turn themselves in. The yearlong investigation into fraud concerns at the Seprod group yielded 27 suspects of which the police are lauding meticulous work in uncovering the 160 million dollar fraud. On Thursday the crime fighters highlighted their win having arrested 17 of the suspects. The suspects span past and previous employees and straddle various roles from sales executives to truck drivers and system administrators. DCP Bailey says a report filed by Seprod on suspicion of fraud in its commercial van sales department to the Counter-terrorism and Organized Crime Branch of the Constabulary. It soon became a multi-unit fraud probe in partnership with the financial investigations division and consultation with the office of the director of public prosecutions.
Deputy Commissioner Bailey is urging the remaining suspects to turn themselves in urgently. He is reminding the remaining suspects to make themselves available whether alone or with their legal representatives. Watch the report for more details:
