$2.4BN Scholarship Announced for Needy STEM Students of UTech A substantial investment of $2.4 billion is set to boost the advancement of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) disciplines. In a recent announcement, it was revealed that over the next five years, 1,000 deserving individuals with a genuine need will be granted full scholarships at the University of Technology, Jamaica (UTech, Jamaica). This initiative aims to enhance Jamaica's technical capabilities and strengthen its appeal in one of the world's most rapidly expanding sectors. The investment is intended to expand Jamaica’s technical capacities and attractiveness in one of the fastest growing sectors in the world. Seeding the funds of opportunity, in the expectation that an industry; based in the field of science, technology, engineering and math (stem) will lift the country's economic potentials. The ministry of finance, the student loan bureau and the nation’s premier tertiary technical institution UTECH have announced the creation of 1000, needs based scholarships, in a bid to broaden the nation’s economic base with expansion into the knowledge processing outsourcing industry. The commitment along with the recently announced Mico Scholarship for teachers of stem, currently represents the largest outlay for a scholarship programme in Jamaica. Acting deputy principal of UTech Professor Haldane Johnson, outlined the broad array of stem focused areas of study available at the institution for scholarship recipients.
