Acknowledging the essential role technology plays in modern day policing, the government is seeking to expand the JCF‘s tech infrastructure.
Security Minister Dr. Horace Chang announced that an investment will be made to add more cameras to Jamaica Eye. As part of its thrust to incorporate technology in every day policing, the government is expanding its technology infrastructure. Starting with Jamaica Eye, some 300 additional CCTV cameras will be installed across the corporate area. Dr. Chang says the expansion will happen later this year.
To date, over 850 CCTV cameras have been installed across main townships. Speaking to another technology driven initiative Dr. Chang shared that revenue of over 26 million dollars has been generated through the electronic ticketing feature.
Chang notes that before the implementation of the traffic ticket management system there was a significant backlog in the court system. 72 of these devices were tested between December 2021 and April this year. Now Dr. Chang is ready to procure more devices to be used island-wide.
