35 St. Elizabeth Residents Receive Land Titles

35 residents of St. Elizabeth are now land owners after Prime Minister Andrew Holness presented them with their land titles for properties they’ve been occupying for years.

The residents received certificates legitimizing their ownership of the spaces. Holness is 35 titles closer to attaining his goal of 20,000 land titles in 3 years. After years of living on alien lands, thirty-five residents of St. Elizabeth have finally received land titles making them the official owners of their properties.

During a land titling ceremony at Newell High School in the parish Wednesday, Prime Minister Holness issued the title certificates as part of the government’s efforts to assist persons in obtaining ownership of properties they’ve lived on for over twelve years, open and undisturbed.

Holness told the residents not to shy away from coming forward to request titles for those lands they’ve been occupying. Meanwhile, minister without portfolio responsible for land, Robert Montague who was also present at the event, reminded the new land owners that their responsibility doesn’t stop when they receive the title. He also encouraged the residents to make proper arrangements to protect their lands should anything happen to them.

Prime Minister Holness made the commitment in 2020 to issue 20,000 titles in 3 years.

These are some of the newest to be handed over under that initiative.
