At least 350 homeless persons were tended to at the Desmond McKenzie Day of care in Montego Bay, St. James on Friday.
The event was organized by the St. James Municipal Corporation along with its partners, and is geared towards providing the poor with basic necessities, such as food and clothing.
Inspector of poor for the Municipal Corporation, Pauline Lecky says the event caters to homeless persons throughout the entire parish. She says even without the event, the organization ensures to feed the homeless daily. Lecky notes the issue of homelessness is everybody’s business, and insists the corporation currently has the matter under control.
Meanwhile, patrons are lauding the inclusiveness of the event. This is part of the government’s initiative to better care for the poor and vulnerable.
