A total 400 million dollars was allocated to support entertainment and sports during the COVID-19 pandemic; a detailed report was provided by Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport Olivia Grange during her contribution to the 2022/23 Sectoral Debate in Parliament on Wednesday.
Minister Olivia Grange provided a report on the expenditure in grants by the government to bolster businesses impacted by the pandemic. Reporting on the 400 million dollars, Grange notes not all businesses were successful in receiving funds from the support program, however she says the Ministry is working assiduously to rectify all issues.
The Minister reports that a total of 29.5 million dollars was allocated to cultural and creative groups which also included the Maroon community. Another 15 million dollars was provided to support entertainment activities, and a little over 100 million was provided to the sports federation to reignite activities.
