Bent on addressing the upsurge of school violence, Police Commissioner Major General Antony Anderson, says the JCF will be adding reinforcement in schools.
The commissioner discussed other topics during the JCF’s first quarterly media briefing. Major General Antony Anderson says the constabulary has trained and deployed an additional 55 school resource officers particularly in western Jamaica.
He says since the reopening of full face to face learning, Jamaica has seen violent incidents between students, some of which are gang related conflicts. Major General Anderson says this move is expected to address the issue of school violence. The commissioner went further to discuss citizens cooperating with the police.
He points out more people are coming on board with the police, abandoning the “informa fi dead” culture in favor of preserving lives and building safer communities. Meanwhile, Major General Anderson says in this year’s budget the JCF will procure one thousand body cameras, adding to approximately four hundred already available. He adds despite the expense, they’re committed to carry out the initiative.
