5TH Wave Hits Western Parishes

On Wednesday Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr. Christopher Tufton, officially confirmed that the country was in the fifth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. Concerns were immediately raised as there is the expectation of rising cases across the island, including the western parishes, which have seen high numbers. 

The clinical coordinator of the Western Regional Health Authority, Dr. Delroy Fray, said there has been a steady increase in the number of patients at the Cornwall Regional Hospital over the past two weeks.

Interestingly, he said most of the patients were not initially admitted to the hospital because of covid, but rather because of prior illnesses and later tested positive for the virus.

He adds that the symptoms attributed to the 5th wave of the virus are mild, however citizens should wear their masks in public areas, and stay home if they are not feeling well. Watch more details in this report:
